Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University's Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow Bioluminescence Response - Fort Pierce, FL.

A Postdoctoral Fellow is sought to characterize the bioluminescence response of marine organisms with next generation sensor systems being developed at HBOI. Intercomparing bioluminescence emission responses for different organisms stimulated by different sensor systems with different operational settings is a goal. Experiments are expected to include lab and test tank work as well as several field deployments. Lab work will involve culturing phytoplankton and possibly zooplankton. Ancillary measurements in the field are expected to include microscopic plankton imaging; having experience in identifying bioluminescent microorganisms is desirable. The Fellow is expected to be involved in characterization of the bioluminescence sensors as well as analysis of the bioluminescence emission responses in time and space.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D from an accredited institution with applicable coursework in an appropriate scientific degree such as Biology.

Experience identifying and culturing phytoplankton in the marine environment is highly desirable.

Experience with marine bioluminescence is desirable.

Experience with the optical properties of water and light fields is desirable.

Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team with scientists, engineers of different disciplines (electronic, optical, software and computer), technicians and students required.

Must have proficiency in Matlab.

Ability to travel, perform field work, and participate in oceanographic research cruises is required. Significant travel and field work is expected.

Salary:

$50,000 - $55,000 per year
