Postdoctoral Research Scientist – Anatomic Position in Cancer

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research at the Nuffield Department Medicine. The goal is to identify the factors, both cell intrinsic and microenvironmental, that makes a cell competent to become cancerous only in particular anatomic locations.

The project will involve utilizing state of the art fate-mapping, imaging and spatial genomic techniques to map the origins and fates of cells in different anatomic locations. This will involve both zebrafish as well as human iPS cells. You will be responsible for managing own academic research and administrative activities which involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. You will Adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols, and test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate. You will also have responsibility for supervising, advising and training junior staff in cell/ molecular biology/ biochemistry techniques and protocols.

It is essential that you hold a DPhil/PhD (or close to completion) in a relevant subject. You will have a background in one of the following: genetics, epigenetics, cancer, developmental biology, imaging or related fields and you will be able to manage your own academic research and associated activities. It is essential that you have an excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposal and results.
