　　Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher with Earth and Ocean Sciences, The School of Natural Sciences at the National University of Ireland, Galway.

　　This position is funded by iCRAG (https://www.icrag-centre.org/) and is available from 16th December 2019 to contract end date 11th December, 2020.

　　Job Description:

　　This project aims to assess public perception of, and trust in, geoscience and geoscientists. Following completion of a wide-ranging literature review, the successful candidate will interview and survey various stakeholders to determine how the Irish public view geoscience and to identify and assess any issues of trust. Using this information, the researcher will facilitate the co-creation of an engagement strategy.

　　Duties:

　　·         ·         Complete extensive literature review of geoscience communication and public perceptions

　　·         ·         Arrange meetings, interviews and surveys with various stakeholder around Ireland

　　·         ·         Complete follow up meetings and analysis of results

　　·         ·         Devise a public engagement strategy for geoscientists

　　·         ·         Coordinate with project team and have regular team meetings with project team

　　Qualifications/Skills required:

　　Essential Requirements:

　　·         PhD in geology

　　·         Published research papers (lead author)

　　·         Clean, full driving licence

　　·         Experience of presenting complex geological information to both specialist and non-specialist audiences

　　·         Experience of using novel science communication techniques

　　Desirable Requirements:

　　·         Excellent written and oral communication skills

　　·         Self-motivated and well organised

　　Salary: €37,874 per annum/pro-rata

　　Start date: Position is available from 16th December 2019
