Applications are invited for the positions of Research Assistant and/or Research Associate to join the group of Dr Dan Hodson within The Wellcome Trust - Medical Research Council Cambridge Stem Cell Institute and Department of Haematology on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

The successful candidates will join a pioneering research project addressing the functional genomics of diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL). This CRUK- funded project will employ new experimental strategies, developed within the Hodson group to modify the genetics of normal human B cells to build "synthetic", experimental models of human lymphoma (Caeser et al; 2019, Nature Communications, Caeser et al; 2021, Nature Protocols). Experiments will employ custom-built CRISPR and open reading frame (ORF) libraries to study the genetic pathogenesis of DLBCL. Experiments will include high- throughput, combinatorial screening to identify genetic combinations able to drive full malignant transformation of human B cells. Genetic perturbations will be combined with single cell RNA sequencing analysis to identify the transcriptional networks corrupted by genetic mutation during the early stages of lymphomagenesis and identify critical hubs that might be exploited therapeutically.

FOR RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD, or an equivalent research doctorate in a relevant subject. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once PhD has been awarded.

The post holder will demonstrate creativity in the design and planning of experiments. They must be able to lead and troubleshoot a complex project, and to engage effectively with bioinformatic and other project collaborators. The ability to learn quickly and to work both independently and as part of a team is essential. The post-holder will become a valued member of the Hodson Group and will supervise students and junior researchers. Excellent organizational and proven problem-solving skills are essential. They will communicate their work effectively in writing and oral presentations at internal meetings and international conferences. Prior experience of B cell or lymphoma biology, cell culture, CRISPR editing, next generation sequencing and mouse experimentation is desirable; however, we will consider all the skills and strengths that you have.

FOR RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Appointment at Research Assistant level is dependent on having a a post-  graduate degree in a relevant subject.

The post holder will be well-grounded in basic cell and molecular biology techniques and must have excellent communication and organizational skills. They will be responsible for progressing a specific line of this project. The post-holder will become a valued member of the Hodson Group will support the research team in a variety of molecular and cellular approaches as well as in a few administrative tasks. Techniques used will include the culture, viral transduction and CRISPR-editing of primary human B cells, molecular biology, flow cytometry and working with murine models of lymphoma. The post holder must have research laboratory experience in molecular and cell biology - preferably blood or cancer cell biology).

There are two posts available either under the Research Assistant or Research Associate level, and both positions are full time.
