We have a vacancy for a postdoc position within the area of Autonomous production optimization with degrading equipment at Department of Chemical Engineering. Starting date will be as soon as possible.

The postdoctoral fellowship is a 2 year temporary position where the main goal is to qualify for work in senior academic positions.

The postdoc will develop methods and algorithms that use information about current process and production conditions, as well as predictive models to make optimal operation and maintenance decisions autonomously, while systematically taking uncertainty into account. The use of nonlinear model predictive control methods as well as planning and scheduling approaches under uncertainty will be considered as part of the development scope.

A secondary goal is to give the candidate hands-on experience as a researcher and in teaching activities.

You will report to your supervisor.

About the project

The project is part of an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Systems Engineering Group at the Department of Chemical Engineering and the RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintenance, and Safety) group at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at NTNU, Aker BP and 3 Chinese Universities (China Univ. of Petroleum East China, Beihang University, Ocean University of China), as well as Jereh and CNOOC. The AutoPRO project is a spin-off project associated with the Centre for Research-based Innovation Subsea production and processing (SUBPRO). www. ntnu.edu/subpro.

The scientific goal of this postdoc project is to study and develop approaches for operating offshore oil and gas processes in the best possible way, and thus make optimal use of the available resources and infrastructure.

Duties of the position

  Development and programming of control-oriented models for optimal operation of offshore production systems with degrading components

  Analysis and development of methods and algorithms that enable for system- wide optimal operation with degrading equipment

  Teaching duties and supervision of master students

  Publication of results in scientific journals and on conferences

Required selection criteria

  You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD

  You must have a professionally relevant background in Process Systems Engineering

  Good written and oral English skills

  Experience in one or more of the following:

  Process modelling and optimization

  Process control

  Programming (Matlab, Julia, Python, and others)

  Willingness to collaborate with our industry partners as well as our project partners in China

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant
