Position Summary
The Web Application Developer we recruiting requires a combination of technical and management skills and responsibilities. The successful applicant needs to have solid experience and demonstrable knowledge in both web application programming, DevOps, and project management skills.
This position is required to define, develop, test, analyze, and maintain new web applications in support of the achievement of business requirements. This includes writing, coding, testing, and analyzing programs and applications. This role will also research, design, document, and modify application specifications throughout the production life cycle.
The Web Application Developer needs to participate in DevOps roles to Implement various development, testing, automation tools, and IT infrastructure, and also to recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements and upgrades.
Internal knowledge sharing is another important task for this position, which includes mentoring, supporting, and guidance with other developers in the team.
The main responsibilities include:
Web Application Development (70%)
● Participate in architecture and web application development activities;
● Cooperate with web designers to match visual design intent;
● Develop and maintain mission-critical information extraction, analysis, and management systems;
● Implement streaming analysis algorithms to generate question focused data sets;
● Provide direct and responsive support for urgent analytic needs;
● Translate loosely defined functional requirements into technical solutions;
● Use open-source technologies and tools to accomplish specific use cases encountered within the project;
● Use coding languages or scripting methodologies to solve a problem with a custom workflow;
● Integrate data from various back-end services and databases;
● Collaborate with others on the project to brainstorm about the best way to tackle a complex technological infrastructure, security, or development problem;
● Perform incremental testing actions on code, processes, and deployments to identify ways to streamline execution and minimize errors encountered.
Business Application Support (15%)
● Fully understand NYU Shanghai business department’s objectives and process;
● Manage business application daily operation as system technical administrator;
● Troubleshooting and escalate application issues as Tier II support;
● Implement ITIL problem management process to continue improving NYU Shanghai business application availability, reliability, and business efficiency.
Documentation and Knowledge Sharing (15%)
● Maintain technical documentation up to date;
● Consolidate system workflow, data dictionary, knowledge base, and other business application system documents during the whole application lifecycle;
● Manage technical knowledge sharing with the Tier I support team.
Qualification
Required Education
● Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, IT, IS, or equivalent area of technical study.
Required Experience
● 5+ years' relevant experience preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
● Familiarity with container orchestration services, especially Kubernetes;
● Familiarity with agile software development in Go, C/C++, Java, JavaScript;
● Experience administering and deploying development CI/CD tools such as Git, Jira, GitLab, or Jenkins;
● Significant experience with Windows and Linux operating system environments;
● Experience with infrastructure scripting solutions such as PowerShell or Python;
● Excellent oral and written communication skills with a keen sense of customer service;
● Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills;
● Process-oriented with great documentation skills;
● Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service;
● Experience with or knowledge of Agile Software Development methodologies;
● High professional integrity, honesty, and trust;
● Be a self-starter and drive tasks to completion.
